....some chaps have a lining (most likely a smooth nylon, just like the inner layer you might find inside the sleeves of a jacket) sewn into them which helps them slide over your pants. I suppose it keeps them from binding. But it also adds a layer. Layers trap air and are great ways to keep warm, which is a definite handicap when it comes to Oklahoma summertime riding! I prefer being able to layer as I see fit, rather than one garmet that has a bunch built in.
